Brutal viral video of nursing home assault results in arrest

It has been reported that the suspect, Jadon Hayden, was a patient inside the Westwood Nursing Center, though no information has yet been released as to why he was being treated there, given that he was not elderly.

The Detroit Police tweeted that they are currently investigating the case and thanked the community for bringing the situation to their attention.

"The nursing home was unaware of the assault until they saw the video," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig during a press conference Thursday. "We are still investigating that aspect of the case, but we do have a suspect in custody."

Nursing home employees said they were "shocked." It was Hayden himself who recorded the video.

Hayden can be seen punching the elderly man in the head repeatedly before sitting him up to expose the man's bloodied head. He then uses a sheet nearby to wipe off the blood, trying to conceal the wound.

The video circulated to almost every corner of social media after concerned citizens re-posted it on Twitter and Facebook, some of whom called the police.

President Donald Trump was made aware of the attack, and too to Twitter to voice his concern. "Is this even possible to believe?" He wrote. "Can this be real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?"

Though Hayden's social media pages remained up until late Thursday evening, it appears that his Facebook and Twitter accounts have been taken down, as well as his Twitter account. Prior to Hayden's suspension, his accounts routinely showed this sort of content.

The 75-year-old victim has been taken to the hospital and is being treated for his wounds, none of which are life-threatening.

There are additional unconfirmed videos of Hayden assaulting other elderly individuals that have surfaced around social media. Detroit police say that those are also being investigated.
