Canada now best country in the world, according to new World Report list

This is because of the country's quality of life and social purpose sub rankings. According to the methodology, Canada "is seen as a stable and safe society in which individuals can develop and prosper, and is open, fair and equitable."

Canada reached this position for the first time since the rankings have existed. This year, Canada received an overall healthy rating of 100 percent.

Canada, they argued, also reached this position as a result of the ease of doing business in this country.

It's been a tough year for everyone, but life above the 49th parallel remains relatively pleasant. This ranking also made note of Canada's vibrant culture: "the list of accomplished and eclectic Canadian writers and artists is long," they said.

"Joni Mitchell, Avril Lavigne and Drake are just a few of the Canadians who have made an impression on modern music." Quite.

Japan finished in second, Germany third, and Switzerland was placed in fourth. The United States finished above the United Kingdom and those unfailingly happy Nordic countries.

Iraq, on the other hand, finished in dead-last (although the list did not include every country in the world).
