China has warned its own citizens that travelling to Canada should be done with caution, mentioning that there are “frequent violent actions” taken by law enforcement, amid rising tensions between the two countries.
The warning was published by the Chinese embassy through the WeChat messaging application platform, which urged citizens to keep an eye on the situation with local security, according to Global News.
China and Canada have been in a months-long dispute over the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, CEO of Huawei, who was being held for possible extradition to the US on charges of violating sanctions by doing business with Iran.

Nine days after Meng’s arrest, China arrested two Canadian citizens, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor. Canadians believe this was in direct retaliation for the arrest of Meng.
While there have been calls for the Canadian government to release Meng in the hopes that China will do the same with Kovrig and Spavor, former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney has urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to rethink it’s long-term relationship with the eastern power.
