BREAKING: Conservative MPs call for end of ‘PMO-directed filibuster’ holding up WE Charity investigation
“It’s time for Liberal MPs to end the PMO-directed filibuster, to vote on the motions, to let the truth come to light, and to release the documents,” said Barrett.
Conservative Finance Critic and Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands MP Michael Barrett called on Prime Minister Trudeau to end the "filibuster, the games, the dirty tricks, and the cover ups" regarding to ongoing WE Charity scandal.
The comments came at a Monday press conference and took place three days after Liberal MPs filibustered the Finance Committee hearings for over 11 hours, much to the chagrin of opposition MPs. NDP MP Alistair MacGregor commented "the longer this goes on, the more it looks like there is something to hide."
"They'll stop at nothing to keep the truth from coming to light," said Barrett.
"It's time for Liberal MPs to end the PMO-directed filibuster, to vote on the motions, to let the truth come to light, and to release the documents," said Barrett.
Barrett said the ethics committee would meet today at 11 am in hopes of Liberals allowing documents to be released.
This morning, WE Charity released dozens of pages of documents on their website. Poilievre warned Canadians to not be fooled by the "old tactic of releasing a bunch of irrelevant documents that don't answer the questions while covering up the documents that matter will not suffice."
"We have very specific questions about how much the Trudeau family got paid, how much lobbying the WE organization engaged in, about who in the PMO they talked to. We want all of those questions answered," said Poilievre.
Those newly-released documents show that the prime minister's wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, had nearly $24,000 in expenses paid for eight events, which Poilievre called "another example of WE paying off Justin Trudeau through his family members."
“When Justin Trudeau shut down Parliament to block investigations into his scandals, he claimed, 'when parliament resumes in the fall there will be ample opportunities to continue to ask whatever questions that committees or members want to continue to do.' Conservatives promised that we would get answers for Canadians. We will follow through on that promise and evidently, the promise made by Justin Trudeau," a statement from the MPs said.
