Conservatives call on Trudeau Liberals to apologize to small businesses for accusing them of being tax cheats
In 2015, Trudeau came under fire from groups representing small businesses across Canada, after comments saying that rich Canadians were using small businesses as fronts to lower tax rates on their own bills.
Multiple Conservative MPs and Shadow Ministers released a statement on Monday calling for an apology from Justin Trudeau after accusing small businesses of being tax chats, and for the Trudeau Liberals to "end their punishing audits on small businesses."
"Nearly three weeks ago, Conservatives stood up for Canadian entrepreneurs and passed a motion in the House of Commons to end the Liberals' punishing audits on small businesses. Nineteen days later and the Trudeau Liberals have yet to apologize to small businesses for accusing them yet again of being tax cheats and put an end to these audits. This is shameful behavior by the Trudeau Liberals and a direct violation of the democratic will of the Canadian people," wrote MPs Pat Kelly, Philip Lawrence, and Bernard Généreux.
"Small businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic and many have had to close their doors for good. Governments at all levels should be doing what they can to help these hardworking entrepreneurs keep their doors open. Instead, the Liberals are forcing mom and pop shops across the country to do even more paperwork, making it even harder for these vital businesses to weather the pandemic," the statement continues.

"Canada's Conservatives are committed to getting results for small businesses and their workers. We will continue to put pressure on the government until the Trudeau Liberals stop disrespecting hardworking entrepreneurs and end the punishing audits on small businesses.
"Conservatives understand that there is no Canadian economy without our small and medium sized businesses. Under the leadership of Erin O'Toole, we will continue to stand up for workers and entrepreneurs across Canada and ensure they get the support they need to weather this pandemic," the statement concluded.
