According to the LAPD, Hunter was taken into custody and subsequently charged with felony burglary. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
In a statement, Deputy Mayor of Communications Zach Seidl said Bass was "grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect."
The Getty House, located at 605 South Irving Boulevard in Central LA, was originally built in 1921, and has served as the official residence of the mayor since 1977.
Bass has long been a proponent of policies many have described as soft-on-crime, including bail reform to reduce the number of people in prisons.
"It's really an embarrassment of our country that we have more people locked up than any place in the world, and if you look at the many, many, many people who are locked up, they're locked up because they're poor, because they can't afford bail or they can't afford proper legal defense," she said in 2019 as a congressional representative.
This is also not the first time Bass has been the victim of a break-in during her time as a politician. As the LA Times reported, while she was running for mayor in 2022, two men entered her residence in Baldwin Vista and stole two handguns. The suspects, Patricio Munoz and Juan Espinoza, pleaded no contest and were sentenced to prison.
