Demonstrators took to the streets of Washington, DC Tuesday evening in protest against the death of Breonna Taylor—a black woman who was shot in her home in Louisville, Kentucky as part of a no-knock search warrant in the investigation of drug trafficking. There were no drugs found in the home.
In one video, demonstrators can be seen walking down the street of a residential area, banging on signs, using sirens, and screaming. Bystanders can be seen on the upper levels of what appears to be apartments, looking down at the commotion on the street.
A separate video shows someone leading the group of demonstrators down the street, chanting "Breonna!" as the crowd behind them responds "Taylor!" over and over again. A few people can be seen holding a sign that reads: "From DC to KY Justice For Breonna Taylor."
The demonstrator with the microphone kicks off the video by criticizing "feminism, and the white suffrage f**king movement."
They continue: "I want to educate a bit about white women. I want to make this clear. When white women talk about supporting their liberation, when black women were breastfeeding their children, and taking care of your f--king kids so you could fight for your suffrage movement, you left black women behind."
ThoughtCo. published a piece at the beginning of this year, laying out that wet nurses had all but disappeared by 1900. The outlet also mentioned: "Before the invention of infant formula and feeding bottles made wet nursing virtually obsolete in Western society, aristocratic women commonly hired wet nurses, as breastfeeding was seen as unfashionable. The wives of merchants, doctors, and lawyers also preferred to employ a wet nurse rather than breastfeed because it was cheaper than hiring help to run their husband's business or manage a household."
This suggests that only the most wealthy women were hiring wet nurses during the time it was in vogue over 120 years ago, as opposed to the whole white female population.
The speaker goes on to suggest that it is right for white women to pay reparations while black women are dying at the hands of the police.
According to The Washington Post's database, a total of 14 unarmed white women have been killed by the police since 2015, while 7 unarmed black women have been killed by members of law enforcement during that same time period.
