DHS arrests over 130 illegal immigrants in first 2 days of Operation Charlotte’s Web

A DHS spokesperson told WCNC, "During the first two days of Operation Charlotte’s Web, Border Patrol arrested over 130 illegal aliens who have all broken the immigration laws of our country. Criminal records of those arrested include known gang membership, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, simple assault, hit and run, possession of stolen goods, shoplifting, DUI, DWI, and illegal re-entry after prior deportation, a felony."

The spokesperson added, "We will not stop enforcing the laws of our nation until every criminal illegal alien is arrested and removed from our country."

Border Patrol Commander Gregory K. Bovino shared some of the arrests that took place on social media, including criminals with charges and/or convictions for assault, DUI, and larceny.

On Sunday, Border Patrol and ICE agents were assaulted by a US citizen in the midst of Operation Charlotte’s Web. "This individual, a US citizen, assaulted Border Patrol and ICE agents with his vehicle in Charlotte. Agents ended up taking him into custody after a pursuit that saw him drive erratically, including off road. He will face stiff consequences for assault," Bovino said. The DHS said that one law enforcement officer was injured in the incident.

In announcing the launch of the operation, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, "Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens hurting them, their families, or their neighbors. We are surging DHS law enforcement to Charlotte to ensure Americans are safe and public safety threats are removed. There have been too many victims of criminal illegal aliens. President Trump and Secretary Noem will step up to protect Americans when sanctuary politicians won’t."

In a joint statement from the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Elected Officials issued on Saturday, they said, "Our organizations believe that our diversity makes us stronger. And with that belief we are unwavering in our commitment to a safe and welcoming community where everyone can grow and thrive."

They said that the Border Patrol’s operations "are causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty in our community as recent operations in other cities have resulted in people without criminal records being detained and violent protests being the result of unwarranted actions."

The statement later added, "It is important for people to understand their rights. There are a number of organizations standing ready to assist individuals seeking legal guidance on immigration matters," later adding to "not hesitate to call 911" if police are needed because "Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department does not participate in Immigration and Customs Enforcement or US Customs and Border Protection operations."
