Don Lemon says we should add Obama to Mount Rushmore

Lemon told the idea to fellow network Chris Cuomo during a conversation about the left-wing movement to remove or vandalize America’s monuments.

The segment started with their reaction to a video of a couple painting over the Black Lives Matter street mural in Martinez, California, and the hate crime charges that followed. While the CNN commentators justified the nationwide dismantling of statues, they vilified this recent act of vandalism.

"They want to paint over signs and they think it's 'our country,’” Lemon stated. "Even though a rich diversity of people helped to build this country, and many of us—meaning our ancestors— for free, did not get paid for it, could not get an education, could not build wealth, are not on statues, Confederate or otherwise, are not on Mount Rushmore."

That’s when Lemon advocated for Obama to be placed on the presidential memorial.

“If they are going to put someone on Mount Rushmore, considering the history of this country, the first black president should be front and center,” Lemon proposed.

Cuomo chimed in: "Add to Mount Rushmore. I think it's a more salable idea than the idea of taking away Founding Fathers."

Lemon continued his argument by asking what’s wrong with “reshaping the country” as it “belongs to everyone.” Cuomo agreed.

“The name shouldn't be Mount Rushmore if you talk to Native Americans. They say it is stolen land,” Lemon went on.

“You're totally right. The premise is where we're gonna have to work towards, which is if we all decide. It's about consensus and collective consciousness," Cuomo responded.

Lemon urged widespread education on the nation’s Founding Fathers so not to deify any prominent figures, claiming that even historic abolitionist President Abraham Lincoln wasn’t “perfect.”

Although Lincoln did more for black lives than Obama ever did, Lemon’s hollow addition to Mount Rushmore will supposedly solve the “rampant racism” in the country.
