EA Sports erases NFL coach Jon Gruden from Madden 22 video game after he gets cancelled for old private emails

"EA Sports is committed to taking action maintaining a culture of inclusion and equity. Due to the circumstances of Jon Gruden's resignation, we are taking steps to remove him from Madden NFL 22," a statement from the company read.

"We will replace him with a generic likeness via a title update in the coming weeks," the statement continued.

Gruden’s departure from the Raiders came after the New York Times published a report that revealed that NFL officials found Gruden had "casually and frequently unleashed misogynistic and homophobic language over several years to denigrate people around the game and to mock some of the league’s momentous changes," the outlet wrote.

Gruden reportedly condemned the use of women referees, the drafting of a gay player, and the kneeling protests that swept across the league in recent years, according to emails reviewed by the New York Times.

In emails to the former president of the Washington Football Team Bruce Allen, as well as others when he worked for ESPN as a color analyst during "Monday Night Football," Gruden reportedly called Roger Goodell a "f-ggot" and a "“clueless anti football p-ssy," "and said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fisher, then the coach of the Rams, to draft 'queers,' a reference to Michael Sam, a gay player chosen by the team in 2014," wrote the New York Times.
