Born in South Africa, Elon Musk has risen to become one of this generation's most prominent businessmen. His ventures, which include everything from Tesla to Space X to tequila have gained notoriety around the world, but for many, it is his non-business related acts that have made him popular.
Musk is known to be a proponent of 'meme culture', often utilizing the medium to make what for most businessmen would be serious, official decisions. He is quite active on social media as well; sometimes his customers tweet him directly to ask for changes or updates. The amazing thing is, he responds.
As Forbes reports, Musk is incredibly influential, "capable of moving markets with a one-word tweet". His advocacy for the e-currency Dogecoin, has been a driving force in its rise.
Saturday Night Live is an unlikely place for a businessperson, but Elon Musk is not like most who do business. He is one of few who have been able to make an impact not only in the market, but in popular culture as well.
According to Variety, not many businesspeople have hosted Saturday Night Live. They mention NBC programming head Brandon Tartikoff who took the reigns in 1983, and Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who did the same in 1990.
While Musk is known for being a comedic genius online, whether he will be able to carry that energy on stage is yet to be seen. Either way it promises to be an entertaining night.
