Federal authorities have DNA evidence that could prove that Rep. Ilhan Omar married her brother, according to a new report from the New York Post. The evidence is part of a sprawling investigation into the Democrat lawmaker, who is reportedly being probed regarding her immigration status.
Investigators, leading up to the raid on Omar's home, had reportedly looked through the lawmaker's trash in order to obtain DNA samples from the Democrat. That DNA sampling may now be part of a probe to look into the allegations that Omar married her brother in order to help him get a green card. She has also been accused of immigration fraud regarding her age when she was naturalized.
A source that spoke to the Post said that the DNA evidence was critical to the investigation and to proving the allegation that she married her brother when she wed Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009. When officials with the Department of Homeland Security raided Omar's home earlier this month, they obtained a number of boxes that were marked "Seized Property Evidence." It is unclear if there was DNA evidence in those boxes that were carried away.

View on XOne source that spoke to the outlet pushed back on the initial report of "dumpster diving" for the DNA samples. The outlet reported that authorities plan to bring conspiracy-related charges stemming from the probe of immigration fraud. “If you argue a conspiracy, you can allege overt acts in furtherance of the conspiracy that are outside the statute of limitations,” Neama Rahmini, a former federal prosecutor, said.
DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro is also pursuing an investigation into Omar and her husband's finances. Last year, she deflated her net worth by tens of millions, claiming that it was because of an accounting "discrepancy."
“That judge would not have signed that warrant unless there was probable cause,” Pirro said about the raid on Omar's home. “If there was a crime committed, it will be prosecuted.”
Omar has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing with her immigration status and claims that she married her brother to get him a green card. Omar has been married three times and divorced twice. She divorced Elmi in 2017. Elmi reportedly applied and then withdrew an application for a green card in 2019. Her marriage to Ahmed Hirsi was not finalized until after her divorce from Elmi, even though she had a Muslim wedding ceremony with Hirsi in 2002, per the Post. Omar had children when she was legally married to Elmi. She, Elmi, and Hirsi also appeared to have the same residence at one point. Omar also filed taxes with Hirsi while she was legally married to Elmi in 2014 and 2015. In 2019, Omar divorced Hirsi and married Tim Mynett, who was a political consultant who did work on her campaign following an alleged affair between the two of them.
Allegations related to Omar's age when she was naturalized could also be core to the investigations. Omar claimed to be 17 years old when she was naturalized as a US citizen in 2000. She has claimed to have been born in 1982, but records online have previously shown her as being born in 1981, which would have made her an adult at the time of her naturalization. She became a citizen automatically when her father was naturalized. But if she was an adult at the time, she would have been required to become a citizen by her own right instead of through a parent.
