The Ford goverment has said that Ontarians will be able to get tested at select pharmacies by the end of this week. In a plan to offer testing to a wider population, including asymptomatic individuals, the Ford government is expanding testing in up to 60 pharmacies. This is according to his announcement on Wednesday.
Premier Doug Ford says this initiative will "take a load off" of assessment centres, which are struggling with wait times.
"We need to make it easier to get a COVID test as it is with a flu shot," Ford said. "It is easy to get a flu shot and we have to make sure a COVID test is just as easy."
He continued saying, "I see it when I drive by (the assessment centres). Everyone is getting tested. I understand that. We are going to ramp this up and take the load of the public system that we have seen over the last 10 days or two weeks."
Ford also states that there will be more locations announced, "in the coming weeks." The 60 locations announced on Wednesday are mostly located in the GTA, including 10 in Brampton.
Testing can be arranged by appointment, starting Friday.
