The University of Central Florida (UCF) recently announced the creation of undergraduate and graduate level programs that focuses on social justice.
The graduate program's website states that its goal is to "develop leaders who can influence policy to create social justice." They go on to say that those who join the program will " ... obtain a theoretical background in social justice, exploring topics such as human rights, income distribution and the role of markets." In addition, students will " ... understand factors that contribute to inequity among various groups," and " ... understand principles of social justice as they apply to government and nonprofit sector."
Some of the courses include "Policy Advocacy for Social Justice," "Equitable Educational Opportunity and Life Chances," and "Women and Public Policy."
UCF's Human Communication undergraduate program offers a "Social Innovation and Activism" track, which provides essentially the same learning outcomes as the aforementioned graduate certificate.
The undergraduate program costs $212.28 per credit hour for in-state students, and $748.89 per credit hour for out-of-state students.
UCF suggests that those who complete the programs will be set for a career in anything from politics to professorship.
According to The Daily Wire, UCF is one of many universities who have created a "social justice degree." The University of Iowa, for example, has had such a program in their catalogue since 2016.
