Green Party leader says ‘small group’ of party executives are out to get her
At her event, Paul opted not to speak further about the legal charades going on in the party, choosing to instead focus on climate change, housing affordability and drug policies.
Green Party leader Annamie Paul said that a "small group" of party executives are behind a court case against her.
Paul made the comments at the opening of her campaign office in the riding of Toronto Centre, where she was accompanied by supporters, said The Canadian Press. “This was not a decision of our council. This was a decision of a small group that did not seek the approval of council for their decision,” she said.
Court filings were submitted by the Green Party Wednesday to overturn arbitration orders to cancel a vote of non-confidence against Paul by the party's council. At her event, Paul opted not to speak further about the legal charades going on in the party, choosing to instead focus on climate change, housing affordability and drug policies, according to the Globe and Mail.
Tensions have been high for weeks in the Green Party, with some showing discontent over the party's leader. The infighting was made Public after Green MP Jenica Atwin crossed the floor to the Liberals over Paul's stance on Israel. Paul is the first Jewish women to be elected leader of a Canadian federal party.
Annamie Paul is hoping that her third run in the riding will be a charm, even though the party revoked funds for her campaign. She previously ran and lost to the liberals in Toronto Centre in 2019 and 2020. The party recently revoked $250,000 in funding earmarked for her campaign, but she insists that momentum is growing as she canvasses the area daily.
