Gunfire leaves two injured at memorial for Toronto rapper Houdini

Duty Insp. Stacey Davis said that there were people gathered north of the 401 in a strip mall parking lot on Beverly Hills Drive. The event was held in memory of Dimarjio Jenkins—a popular Toronto musician who is better known as Houdini, according to CBC News.

Jenkins was killed in a shooting on May 26 when he was just 21-years-old. Two others were injured in the targeted shooting including a 27-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at the gathering at around 11:30 on Tuesday night. The crowd split apart as police arrived on the scene, said Davis.

Two men later arrived at a hospital close to the scene with gunshot wounds. One was in his 20s and the other in his 40s. Davis said one of the men had serious injuries.

There were over 30 shell casings found by officers at the scene, which they believe were fired from several weapons.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers or the 31 Division.

Jenkins was seen as an up and coming star before his death, with almost 20 million streams on Spotify in 2019. Many well-known musicians made tributes to the rapper, including Meek Mill and Tory Lanez.

Surveillance footage of the killing was released by police two days after the rapper's death. There have been many shootings resulting in the deaths of Toronto rappers in the past two years.
