House GOP to introduce bill to put Charlie Kirk on US silver dollar

Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger and Rep Abe Hamadeh plan to introduce the bill later in the week, per Fox News. The bill would direct the US Treasury to mint 400,000 silver dollar coins with Kirk’s image on one side and the words "well done, good and faithful servant" on the other. The coins would be considered legal tender.

Also featured on the coins would be Kirk’s full name, Charles James Kirk, the year 2026, and the US’ full name and motto. The final design would be selected by the Treasury secretary in consultation with President Donald Trump.

Hamadeh told Fox News, "Since 1892, Congress has authorized commemorative coins to celebrate and honor historic American patriots." He praised Kirk as an "American treasure."

"He tirelessly sacrificed his time, energy, and money to save this nation for future generations. Ultimately, at the hands of a radical leftist, he sacrificed his life. His life must be commemorated, and this coin will allow us to pass a reminder of his remarkable life on to generations to come," he added.

The passage of the bill would make Kirk, 31 at the time of his death, the youngest American to be placed on US currency. Pfluger said this would be a "fitting honor that cements his extraordinary legacy alongside presidents and founding fathers who shaped our republic."

"Charlie Kirk was a conservative titan whose transformational impact on millions of Americans deserves permanent recognition alongside our nation's greatest leaders and influential figures," he added.

An 1866 law passed by Congress bars images of living individuals from being placed on US currency. While several presidents have received the honor, other notable Americans, such as Sacagawea, former US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall, and Susan B. Anthony have all appeared on versions of the dollar coin.
