Illegal immigrant drowns in Rio Grande near Eagle Pass ahead of Biden’s border visit

This comes just hours ahead of dueling US southern border visits between Democrat President Joe Biden and former Republican President Donald J. Trump.

Trump will be visiting Eagle Pass, which has been at the center of Biden's historic illegal immigration crisis, while Biden is avoiding the area and will be delivering a speech from Brownsville, Texas. Biden is expected to shame Republican lawmakers for rejecting the bipartisan open-borders bill, placing the blame on other US officials for the crisis that his administration has caused.

The illegal immigrant drowning on Thursday was first reported by the New York Times. However, the Rio Grande River has been the site of many illegal immigrant drownings over the past few years, including children.

The Biden administration has frequently placed false blame on the state of Texas and its border policies for being responsible for the drownings.

In January, the Biden White House and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) both claimed that the deaths of illegal immigrants, including two children, were the fault of Texas' border policies after Governor Greg Abbott deployed the National Guard to deal with the border chaos, and kicked out Biden's border agents from Shelby Park.

DHS claimed that if Border Patrol had access to the area where the Texas National Guard had taken charge, they might have been able to save the illegal immigrants.

However, it was revealed via court documents that Mexican officials told Border Patrol at 9 pm that the individuals had drowned at 8 pm and Border Patrol only requested access to the area after the drownings had occurred, meaning that at the time Border Patrol asked for access, the deaths had already happened.

Gov. Abbott and the Biden administration have been going head-to-head over the border crisis since President Biden took office in 2021 and immediately rescinded effective Trump-era border security policies.

Most notably, Abbott recently invoked the "invasion clause" in the US Constitution after the Biden administration took the state of Texas to the Supreme Court over the state's attempt to secure the US-Southern border. Abbott ordered the Texas National Guard to seize control of Shelby Park from Biden's border agents who are not allowed to do their jobs.

Shelby Park was at the height of illegal immigration until the Texas National Guard took control and installed razor wire. The security effort resulted in thousands of crossings per day to just three.

The state of Texas's efforts to protect its citizens from criminal illegal immigrants have resulted in a looming federal showdown as the Biden administration has attempted to block Texas's security measures at every step.

Now, Donald Trump, who is the GOP frontrunner, will deliver a speech from the site of the federal showdown, while President Biden avoids the historic area and will be appearing at border "cold zones" instead.
