In first interview since recall, ousted San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin won’t rule out another run
Boudin said he felt he wasn’t given a fair shake, pointing out that despite his short time in office, and was “attacked for literally everything that’s wrong in the city,” including “things that have been wrong for decades.”
In early June, he was ousted from his position after two years following a successful recall effort by those frustrated with his soft-on-crime policies.

"A lot of my supporters and endorsements and donors and Democratic clubs that were behind me are urging me to run now, or in 2023," he said, adding that while he is passionate about his work, he has also enjoyed having some down time since being recalled.
"I want to spend time with my family," he explained. "The weekend after the election, I did the household errands and went shopping ... things I hadn’t been able to do for months while running the office and fighting two separate recalls."
Boudin's position will be filled by a temporary replacement chosen by mayor London Breed until voters go to the polls in November to choose a proper successor.
As the Chronicle reports, the leader of the recall campaign, Mary Jung, suggested that if Boudin chooses to run to become his own successor, he will be "soundly rejected by voters again."
Boudin, for his part, said he felt he wasn't given a fair shake, pointing out that despite his short time in office, he was "attacked for literally everything that’s wrong in the city," including "things that have been wrong for decades."
The 41-year-old was a first-time political candidate when he was elected in 2019 with 50.8 percent of the vote. He was representative of a group of progressive prosecutors elected across the country who ran on platforms of police reform.
