Investigation finds Danforth shooter acted alone

A source tells CP24 that after a very thorough investigation involving searches of his Thorncliffe Park home, his personal devices and his online search history, Toronto police have concluded their probe.

Faisal Hussain is now believed to have acted alone and deemed to be a “troubled man.”

On July 22nd, Hussain drew an illegal .40 calibre handgun and began firing at people at the corner of Danforth and Logan Avenues. The gun used by Faisal Hussain was likely obtained from a “gang-related source.” The gun itself was stolen during a break-and-enter in Saskatoon in 2015, a police source told CTV News.

The theft of the firearm used by Hussain occurred around the same time that Hussain’s brother Fahad, who is currently in a drug-induced coma, was arrested in Saskatoon on drug charges, court documents seen by CTV Saskatoon show.

The gun, an illegal model in Canada, was originally from the United States, police sources told CP24, adding that American authorities are helping to track the gun’s exact origin.

Hussain fired randomly at anyone who crossed his path, ultimately ending the lives of two young people, a 10-year-old girl named Juliana Kozis, and an 18-year-old woman named Reese Fallon.

Witnesses told CP24 that Hussain yelled “You’re all going to die” as he fired at them. After a short exchange of gunfire with police officers, Hussain turned his gun on himself.

Searches of Hussain’s bedroom in the apartment he shared with his parents found loaded 9mm handgun magazines, loaded AK-47 magazines, and two prohibited drum-style magazines.

Hussain’s family issued a public statement after the attack, telling police that he suffered from mental health challenges. Police said they were called to interact with Hussain in 2010 regarding his mental health.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the shooting days after it occurred, but police and terror researchers have dismissed a possible link between the terror group and Hussain. It is worth noting that the Islamic State generally takes credit for most terror attacks that could possibly be seen as Jihadist in nature.

The news comes as the victims and families impacted by the deadly Greektown shooting hold a press conference today to speak about gun violence and what they say is a “lack of action by governments” to address it.
