Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and former advisor to 45th President Donald Trump, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in the creation of new peace deals between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and other Arab countries.
Kushner and his former deputy Avi Berkowitz were nominated by Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz, according to Fox News.
The deals were the "most significant diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East in 25 years," according to Reuters. Many Trump supporters believe that the media downplayed the importance of these deals to harm his re-election chances.
Among many accomplishments of foreign policy, the Trump administration brokered a deal between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. Kushner told Fox News back in October that there are "people in Washington for 30, 40 years" who were "never able to work on a single foreign transaction."
He jokingly added that negotiating the peace deals is "much harder than President Trump is making them look." He also said "people have been very critical of the president over the last three years for whatever he does… but the reality is he's taken a different approach on how to deal with Washington, he took a different approach in the Middle East and he's put up results."
Unfortunately, it has been reported that President Biden is reviewing the deals. Biden has spent his first week and a half in the Oval Office signing record amounts of executive orders overturning many of the successful policies of the Trump administration.
Alan Dershowitz told Fox News in a statement, "The Nobel Peace Prize is not for popularity. Nor is it an assessment of what the international community may think of those who helped bring about peace. It is an award for fulfilling the daunting criteria set out by Alfred Nobel in his will. These men, and the Abraham accords, they helped produce, meet these criteria better than any other person or groups eligible for the award."
