According to two sources within the Liberal party, Jody Wilson-Raybould is currently mulling over a potential run for the Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
The Assembly of First Nations is the national representative organization of the First Nations in Canada.
The role of the National Chief and the AFN is to advocate on behalf of First Nations as directed by Chiefs-in-Assembly. This includes facilitation and coordination of national and regional discussions and dialogue, advocacy efforts and campaigns, legal and policy analysis, communicating with governments, including facilitating relationship building between First Nations and the Crown as well as public and private sectors and general public.
If Ms. Wilson were to run for the position it would place her at the centre of all indigenous issues, and given her first-hand knowledge of the Canadian legal system and the inner wokrings of government at the highest levels, she could play an extremely significant role keeping all future Canadian governments honest.
This would also provide more meaning to as why the former AG signed her resignation letter as "Puglaas".
In the Kwak’wala language, it means “a woman born to noble people.” It was a name given to her by her grandmother when she was a child, and could be a sign of solidarity with the indigenous people.
While Ms. Wilson is allegedly considering the idea, a source within the Liberal party said: "she is just not there yet.
