"I thought the article released online, it's going to be printed tomorrow in the Times, was good. I think you're clear. And anyway if you get a chance give me a call, I love you."
The Times story in question revealed that Hunter's potential business partner, CEFC chairman Ye Jianming, had been arrested in China, and that Ye's associate Patrick Ho had been convicted of bribery in the US.
The piece explained that Hunter had met with Ye in Miami the year before to discuss business.
It has since been revealed that Hunter made multi-million dollar deals with the Chinese company, and was at one point even gifted a diamond.
The Times reported that upon being arrested, Ho called Joe Biden's brother Jim, who told the paper he thought the call was intended for Hunter. As the Daily Mail reports, Hunter once referred to Ho as the "spy chief of China."
Hunter went on to receive a $1 million retainer to represent Ho as his attorney.
