Judge denies Britney Spears request to remove her father from conservatorship

A judge ruled Wednesday against popstar Britney Spears's request to have her father removed as the conservator of her estate following an emotional plea to the court last week regarding a thirteen year conservatorship.
The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears sparked tremendous support from the public after detailing the horrific effects of Americans' obsession with celebrities which led to Britney Spears' mental health deterioration, leading to her conservatorship.
Britney Spears's court-appointed lawyer, Sam Ingham, asked the court to remove Spears's father Jamie, and replace him as the conservator with the Bessemer Trust. However, the court denied the request.
"The conservator's request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice," the court documents state, according to Variety.
Ingham filed the motion to remove Jamie Spears as her conservator last fall, stating Britney was "afraid of her father." However, the court denied the motion and Ingham recently refiled.
Spears refuses to perform and stated she will resume only if her father is removed from her conservatorship. Spears has been on an "indefinite work hiatus" from her Las Vegas residency since January 2019.
According to TMZ, it wasn’t until recently that Ingham decided to file paperwork requesting that Bessemer take-over as Spears's conservator. The paperwork was approved; although additional paperwork to appoint Bessemer Trust has yet to be officially filed.
"I shouldn't be in a conservatorship if I can work and provide money and work for myself and pay other people," Spears told Judge Brenda Penny during her address to the court last week. "It makes no sense."
"What state allows people to own another person’s money and account and threaten them in saying, 'You can’t spend your money unless we do what we want you to do?'" she asked the judge. "And I’m paying them."
Spears said her father Jamie "loved" the control he as her "abusive" conservator. Britney Spears said she wishes one day to have a daughter but alleged Jamie won’t allow for the removal of her contraceptive (IUD), preventing her from having another child.
"I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have another baby," Britney said. "But this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children – any more children."
Since 2008, James P. Spears has been in control of his daughter's multi-million dollar fortune as the popstar's sole conservator.
