Austin Metcalf’s accused killer Karmelo Anthony allowed to graduate with his class while out on bail

Anthony’s spokesman Dominque Alexander told the Daily Mail, "We are in arrangements of doing an early graduation. They have agreed to allow him to graduate." Anthony is a student at Centennial High School.

In the wake of an April 17 press conference held by Alexander and Anthony’s family, the school district said that Anthony would be allowed to graduate. Anthony, however, will not be allowed to participate in the school’s May 22 graduation or walk the stage with his fellow classmates.

Alexander said, "We’re not asking for accommodations. We’re not asking for him to be part of any activities or anything." He claimed that Anthony had a 3.7 GPA at the time of the stabbing, which was high enough to graduate without completing any more school work.

Anthony has been charged with murder in the death of Metcalf, and in April, his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000. He was placed on house arrest. Alexander said during the April press conference that the school district was taking steps to expel Anthony.

Anthony has been accused of fatally stabbing Metcalf at an April 2 track meet after a confrontation in which Metcalf told Anthony he was sitting under the wrong tent. Witnesses said that the two teens were in a verbal argument and that Anthony reached in his bag as he said, "Touch me and see what happens." One witness said Metcalf "grabbed" Anthony, leading to the stabbing, while another said Metcalf "touched" Anthony.

In the wake of Anthony being let out on house arrest, members of the gated community in which the family lives expressed concerns. One mother said, "Not good. Not good. I don't think he should be out. I don't understand why he had a knife? My kids were in track. Your tents, for you school, you don't sit under another school's tent. That is NOT done because everyone leaves their stuff there while they're out on events. Why would you stab someone? And now he's a few doors down. It's very scary. Like could he rob houses? I don't know."
