Music legend Van Morrison to release three new anti-lockdown ‘protest’ songs
Van Morrison makes no bones about his vehement opposition to the lockdown measures in place right now in the UK and elsewhere, and has enshrined his sentiments in three new songs.
Van Morrison has made no bones over his vehement opposition to the lockdown measures in place right now in the UK and elsewhere, and has enshrined his sentiments in three new songs.
The legendary singer, musician and songwriter from Northern Ireland has had more than half a century's time in the public eye. He's now released three new and very scathing “protest songs” ready for release: "Born to Be Free," "As I Walked Out," and "No More Lockdown."
Morrison’s name now joins a growing list of dissenting voices concerned about the deleterious effects of lockdown measures, in terms of civil liberties and also economic liberties.
According to MSN, these songs are set to be released in the order described above, starting on the 25th of this month, and at two-week intervals. In these songs, "Morrison makes it clear in his new songs how unhappy he is with the way the government has taken away personal freedoms," according to his own website.
A sneak peek at some of the songs’ lyrics reads:
"No more government overreach No more fascist bullies Disturbing our peace."
"No more taking of our freedom And our God given rights Pretending it's for our safety When it's really to enslave."
The UK has been especially hit by the pandemic and the resulting lockdown.
Previously in an interview, Morrison, who is famous worldwide for evergreen hit songs such as “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Moondance,” had accused scientists of “making up crooked facts”
Morrison went on in his statement:
"I’m not telling people what to do or think. The government is doing a great job of that already... It's about freedom of choice; I believe people should have the right to think for themselves."
Morrison claims he will perform the new songs live later this month in a series of shows he has been scheduled to perform at London’s iconic Palladium Theatre. They will then be made available for download and streaming.
