On Saturday, The Washington Post's resident mask enthusiast Taylor Lorenz conducted a tense interiew with Libs of TikTok founder Chaya Raichik. Lorenz wore Covid-era mask outside in Califronia; Raichik wore a shirt with a picture of Lorenz crying on it.
During the interview posted on YouTube, Lorenz questioned what led Raichik to be more forceful in her opposition to the media. Raichik said it was "the lies and defamation, the hypocrisy."
Early in the interview, Raichik asked Lorenz about the death threats she gets, if journalists should condemn those attacks, and if they are responsible for the attacks on her. Lorenz said she never claimed that she never suggested that Raichik should have to answer for threats after she posts.
The topic came up later in the interview when Lorenz asked Raichik about the violent threats that places receive after a post she makes. "We do not know who makes the threat, Bomb threats are bad. I've said that a thousand times. People who call in bomb threats should be arrested." Raichik responded. "I just don’t know, what does it have to do with me?"

Lorenz claimed that the level of responsibility is different "when talking about the media" and that a death threat is different from a bomb threat and is "normalized."
When pressed on the issue of pornagraphy being distributed to children in schools, Lorenz admitted she hadn't read any of the books that have sparked controversy in elementary and middle schools. She appeared shocked when Raichek showed her a example of the graphic material.

View on XEarlier this week, the media claimed that the death of a child in Oklahoma was the result of bullying because of the work that Raichik does in trying to get porn material out of school libraries in the state. Raichik told Lorenz that the the death was "very tragic, it's horrible."
The media narrative around Dagny Benedict, known as Nex, fell apart when bodycam footage was released in which the child said the fight started after she poured water on three girls in the bathroom. She also said that she didn't have any interaction with the girls before the fight.
