Man fires gun at Trump supporters in Fort Mill, South Carolina

Marquise Damarius Asomani, 23, has been taken into custody on six counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and a single count of "unlawful carrying of a pistol, pointing and presenting firearms at a person and possession of a firearm during a violent crime," according to WBTV.

The incident occurred around 6:50 pm in the area around I-77 and Sutton Road. Members of a local women's organization were holding signs on the side of the road to show their support for President Donald Trump.

Officers reported that a number of people from the group said that three males "drove by more than once, making derogatory remarks and yelling obscenities at them from their vehicle."

The victims described how the vehicle turned from Sutton Road on to a ramp going north, and as the driver continued yelling, he put his arm out of the window with what appeared to be a firearm in his hand.

There were allegedly several shots fired as the vehicle proceeded north on the interstate.

"It's sickening. It's absolutely sickening," Matthew Ostrowski, one of the supporters on the bridge, said.

”All of a sudden you know, bang bang bang bang bang bang bang” Ostrowski added.

"It was ridiculous. There were kids everywhere," Ostrowski continued. "They drove by really slow and saw everybody, so they knew exactly who was there."

As the incident was unraveling, officials said that an SCHP trooper in the area noticed the activity and drove onto I-77 in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Shortly after, the trooped discovered that the vehicle had been abandoned near Gold Hill Road and Deerfield Drive.

The trooper then noticed a second vehicle leaving the area and noticed that one of the people inside was wearing the same clothes as one of the people in the first vehicle. The vehicle was pursued and stopped by officers.

After an investigation, police said that two of the three males were released without charges. The driver, Asomani, was taken into custody.

“I think it’s sad honestly that we’re showing support for the president and you have to be nervous about somebody coming and doing this," Lindsey Portugal, who’s was part of the rally organizing group, said. “I mean that’s just discouraging.”

Asomani was taken to the York County Detention Center with a $75,000 bond. Ostrowski noted that the incident should not discourage people from showing up to support the president, but that it should motivate them.

”If anything this energizes me more and after this incident,” Ostrowski said. “It’s done the same for many many people.”
