Margaret Trudeau and Kim Campbell travelled to Kenya with WE Charity last year
Margaret Trudeau, mother of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and former Prime Minister Kim Campbell, Trudeau’s appointee to the Judge Selection Committee, both traveled to Kenya with WE Charity in 2019.
Margaret Trudeau, mother of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and former Prime Minister Kim Campbell, Trudeau's appointee to the Judge Selection Committee, both travelled to Kenya with WE Charity in 2019.
The Trudeau-linked duo joined WE's co-founder Craig Kielburger for the opening of WE College in the rural part of Kenya's Narok County.
This revelation comes in the midst of an ethics investigation into the Trudeau Administration for a contract agreement with WE Charity that planned to spend half of the promised amount.
The controversial federal student grant program would hand out nearly a billion dollars to Canadian youth for volunteer work, but the terms of the agreement laid out plans to spend only half of that pledge.
Trudeau’s family members have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from WE Charity, while Finance Minister Bill Morneau went on secret family vacations to Ecuador and Kenya paid for by the organization at the time.
Since, Trudeau Liberals have been called out by outraged student groups who demanded the government to actually allocate the half-hearted $900 million funding towards student financial aid.
"Thanks to the WE College, the future of students in Kenya is brighter than ever before," Margaret Trudeau commented in last year's WE Charity press release.
WE paid Trudeau's mother $250,000 for speaking at 28 events over four years, while WE Charity initially denied that she had received any fee, CBC News reported.
"As I look at the WE College learners here today I see young empowered women dedicated to their education, their future and their community," Campbell said.
"Today's ceremony celebrates many firsts—the first WE College, the first cohort to study at this world-class institution, the first time learners from the surrounding area can access higher education without needing to leave their home," the former Prime Minister concluded.
