A Missouri man who entered the US Capitol building on January 6 was arrested on Wednesday after Federal agents reportedly used phone tracking and facial recognition to track him down.
According to an affidavit obtained by the Huffington Post, an anonymous tip was sent to the FBI on February 26 claiming that an employee of Yoder Lock & Key in Nevada, Missouri was involved in the January 6 riot.
The anonymous person did not know the employee’s name, but said "the day of the event he was inside the Capitol and was dressed as George Washington."
The "About Us" section of the company’s website shows a picture of a man in 18th century men’s attire with the caption, "Isaac & Kelly Yoder." That photo has since been removed from the page.
FBI investigators used Yoder’s drivers license photo and website photo, and compared it to social media data the FBI had collected on January 6. They conclude that the photos were similar and were believed to be the same person.
The FBI also utilized cell site data from AT&T on January 6, stating that Yoder’s cellphone "was identified as having utilized a cell site consistent with providing service to a geographic area that includes the interior of the United States Capitol building."
Yoder admitted to the FBI during a voluntary interview on March 16 that he had entered the Capitol building on January 6. He said he entered the building through a "west facing door."
Inside the building, Yoder said there were approximately two officers standing next to every statue, and that there were law enforcement officers and people standing around inside.
In an interview with Newsweek on March 19, Yoder said if the crowd had wanted to "mount a unified stand," there would be extensive casualties.
"Most of us out there are on the side of the aisle who are the gun owners," Yoder told Newsweek. "If we had collectively gone there to cause trouble there would have been piles of bodies. We could have leveled things."
Yoder added that when he entered the building, officers never told him explicitly that he couldn’t come inside, also stating that he "never went against law enforcement."
The affidavit states that Yoder broke 18 US Code § 1752, which states that you cannot enter restricted grounds and buildings without lawful authority and that you cannot impede the conduct of Government business and functions.
