MSNBC contributor calls the GOP a ‘front for a terrorist movement’

During his appearance on "Deadline: White House," Dr. Jason Johnson made the brazen comparison while discussing the relationship between former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as multiple candidates jockey for pole position in the next presidential election.

He also stated that the best thing the GOP could do for the Democrats to win in the next election is to elect Trump in the upcoming presidential primary.

Johnson, an associate professor of communication and journalism at HBCU Morgan State University, referred to Trump as "the bad guy" and called the Republican Party a "front for a terrorist organization."

"If Trump is on the ballot in 2024, it's the easiest thing in the world for Democrats because you can always run against the bad guy," Johnson said. "But I think the bigger more dangerous thing, and I've been saying for a while, I'm working hard to never say 'Republican Party' again, because it's not a party."

"The GOP is no longer a governing party and news outlets should stop using that term," said the controversial professor. In previous tweets, Johnson had accused the Republican Party of trying to cheat in the 2022 midterms and demanded a federal takeover of voting in Republican-majority states.

Johnson, who functions as a paid contributor for MSNBC, was previously suspended in February 2020 for mocking black women who supported democratic socialist and presidential hopeful Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, referring to the demographic as "the Island of Misfit Black Girls." He was reportedly fired from the extreme left-wing publication The Root over his remarks.

"They have given up all pretense of being a part of the Democratic process and only exist as a vehicle to restore Trump to power through violence or malfeasance," wrote Johnson on Twitter, doubling down on his MSNBC remarks on Thursday.

"They're Sinn Féin to the IRA. They're the PLO to Hamas. They are a dime storefront for a terrorist movement," Johnson had said.

Following backlash, Johnson cited a recent letter from the Republican National Committee to the Commission on Presidential Debates, which stated a pullout from future presidential debates unless the organization committed to making reforms to acting as a fair and nonpartisan organization, CNN reported.

"They just announced in The New York Times today, where they're asking their 2024 nominees to not engage in presidential debates. They're no longer a party. And so, nothing surprises me anymore," Johnson wrote.
