National Guard called in for Trump rally security

There are also a number of anti-Trump protests set to take place on Saturday, according to the Daily Wire.

The soldiers will be used to help local and state police create safety zones around the BOK Center, where the rally will be held, said Police Chief Wendell Franklin. The guardsmen will not be armed but they will have batons, shields and pepper spray.

On Wednesday, a request was denied by an Oklahoma judge to cancel Trump’s campaign rally. A request that attendees wear mandatory face masks was also denied by the judge.

Two people claiming to be immunocompromised are attempting to file a suit against the BOK Center management company—ASM Global—to prevent the rally from happening. They have teamed up with the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation and The Greenwood Cultural Centre.

The residents claim that the rally would cause a large increase in coronavirus cases and want to bar Trump from holding the event until social distancing measures are outlined by event organizers.

“If ASM Global moves forward with the event without adequate review, planning, training, protective equipment, and safeguards, cases of COVID-19 — and the unavoidable attendant deaths — will rise,” said the complaint.

It is unclear if these complainants had similar concerns or attempted to legally bar protestors from recently marching through downtown Tulsa due to concern for their own medical conditions.

BOK Center spokesperson Meghan Blood said the venue will follow the state’s event regulations. Business owners in Oklahoma are also currently allowed to make their own rules for social distancing.

“Government officials have advised that the campaign rally as planned is consistent with the guidance for the OURS [Open Up & Recover Safely] plan for entertainment venues, however, in the event that the governing authorities impose new restrictions, we will notify the event organizers immediately,” Blood noted in a statement to Politico.

Brad Parscale, a Trump campaign manager posted to Twitter saying that there will be temperature checks for attendees along with hand sanitizer and free face masks.
