The survey was conducted during the week of May 11 to May 17 2021 in partnership with the UBC (University of British Columbia) and is considered to be accurate to plus/minus 2.2 points 95 percent of the time. A total of 1984 Canadians were polled.
According to the Georgia Straight, the study showed several clear demographic and political correlations in people's responses.
Age was a very prominent factor, as was sex, with 79 percent of men over 55 years old saying that Canada was not a racist country, and 70 percent of women in that same age group agreeing with them.
People who voted NDP were most likely to agree with the statement that Canada is a racist country, with 55 percent of NDP-voting respondents agreeing. People who voted Green came in at a close second, with 54 percent in agreement.
In the middle, people voting for the Liberal party agreed with the above statement at a rate of 38.
People voting Conservative only agreed with the statement at a rate of 18 percent, superseded only by people voting for the Bloc, among whom only 13 percent of people polled agreed that Canada was racist.
