Ontario's borders with Quebec and Manitoba fully reopen today. Ontario's order restricted travel expired at midnight Wednesday morning. The restrictions had been in place since April when Ontario was facing a rush of COVID-19 infections. Travel between Ontario and Quebec will return completely to normal while those entering Manitoba will still face a two week quarantine if they are not already fully vaccinated.
Before, travel was restricted to reasons deemed essential by the government like healthcare, custody or compassionate grounds like attending a funeral. Check points had been set up on major ports of entry into Ontario and police had the power to stop people and ask for their reason for entering the province.
Ontario is now facing pressure to reopen faster as vaccinations continue to sore and infections decline. Quebec is reopening quicker than Ontario with talk of allowing up to 10,000 fans in the Bell Centre for the Canadians vs. Golden Knights playoff series.
Stage 2 for Ontario would mean larger gathering limits, outdoor sports leagues resuming, spectators at certain outdoor events like motorsports and eased restrictions on outdoor dining.
