The government of Ontario is asking its residents to not have people over for the holidays at any time, no matter what the actual legal situation is where they live.
The announcement came supposedly because officials figure people are already starting to make their holiday plans, and wanted to get their recommendations out early, to avoid surprising people.
According to Global News, Ontario saw 1373 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, with 35 new deaths. Some experts claim that the province could be up to as many as 6,500 new cases daily on average before the end of December.
Toronto and Peel regions are currently locked down, which means people can't leave their houses for non-essential reasons, restaurants can offer delivery our take-out only, and people are not allowed to visit other people's residences.
York, Halton, Durham, Hamilton and Waterloo regions are currently under "red zone" restrictions, which means, among other things, that social gatherings are limited to five people indoors, or 25 maximum outdoors.
The rest of the province is under much less severe restrictions, but provincial officials warn that everywhere within the province, the virus must still be taken seriously, and social distancing and mask wearing should be a regular habit for everybody.
