"Last Friday the Premier jumped the shark. He’s lost the confidence and the faith of the Ontario people."
Ontario House Leader Paul Calandra stopped just short of apologizing with the following statement:
"It wasn’t our best weekend communication-wise and especially given how challenging this has been for the people of the province of Ontario and we can do a better job of communicating what we need to do to get beyond this," stated Calandra.
At issue, mainly, is the Premier's backing down on some of the highly unpopular new lockdown regulations he introduced, a day after introducing them. These included sweeping new police powers allowing officers to randomly stop people and find out why they have left their homes, and closing playgrounds down.
The measures have been extremely unpopular with the public, and even unpopular with police officers themselves. Police have even been on video allowing anti-lockdown protests to continue.
"Our regulations will be amended to allow playgrounds but gatherings outside will still be enforced. Play outside safely. Parents keep your distance and wear masks if you can’t," said Ford on social media on Sunday, which sparked outrage among other government officials.
