O’Toole meets with Francois Legault to discuss Canadian unity and economic reopening plan
“I wanted to let him know that myself and my colleagues are here to work with the government if there is a second wave of COVID. That is a top priority for us.”
Erin O'Toole addressed media on Monday from Montreal, Quebec following a meeting with Quebec Premier Francois Legault.
Legault is the first premier that O'Toole has met while serving as Conservative Leader.
O'Toole said the meeting was "frank and open" discussion, regarding the reopening of the economy.
"I wanted to let him know that myself and my colleagues are here to work with the government if there is a second wave of COVID. That is a top priority for us."
While discussing Bill 21, O'Toole said that Canadians needed a government that "respects provincial autonomy," saying that he said that it was important to respect the constitution.
The bill, while unpopular outside of Quebec, has seen widespread approval ratings, according to polling. One poll found that 64 percent of Quebecers were in favour of the bill.
