The Conservative and Liberal Party are currently in a tie when it comes to voting intent, a new Angus Reid poll has revealed.
Despite Erin O'Toole only taking over the party's leadership last week, 35 percent of respondents said that they would vote for the CPC, while 35 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Liberal Party.
This may come as gloomy news for the Trudeau Liberals who have been accused of trying to hold an election in the fall.
The Liberal Party's popularity has declined dramatically since the beginning of the pandemic where Trudeau's near daily press conferences saw his polling soar.
In recent weeks, however, the ongoing WE scandal drama and state of Canada's economy has made the CPC a viable alternative for government.
Erin O'Toole has been courting voters in seat-rich Ontario and Quebec, regions that are vital to electoral success in Canada.
Despite this, the Liberal's have a double-digit lead in the GTA. This is made worse by Premier Ford's unwillingness to campaign for O'Toole in a federal election.
O'Toole remains somewhat unknown to non-conservative Canadians, however, he has only spent two weeks as leader. The CPC will aim to boost their leader's profile over the following weeks.
