Overflow of Minneapolis riots has moved into St. Paul

Police have asked people to avoid traveling through the area if possible as a number of businesses have closed down as a result, according to Fox 9 News. They added that the 1400 block of University Avenue and 1700 block of Suburban Avenue are the most hit places.

This is likely overflow from the riots that hit Minneapolis late Wednesday night. The looting on Thursday began when a group of 50-60 people attempted to overrun a Target store in the Midway neighborhood before the group gradually moved eastward on University Avenue.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said officers arrived at the Target around lunchtime. People dropped their goods in response and darted off.

It was not long after that a group tried to ransack a Foot Locker store on University Avenue across the street. Police have stayed in the area, patrolling as looters have started a standoff with St. Paul Police.

Senators and staff were encouraged to leave the Capitol complex in the "interest of public safety" for fear that rioters might show up.
