Montreal police shoot and kill knife-wielding man in Notre-Dame-de-Grace

The shooting occurred just before 6 am. Police had been called at 5:50am to respond to a man "in crisis" in the area.

According to Quebec's independent police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), the man walked towards a Montreal police cruiser brandishing a knife and the officers stayed put in their vehicle. The man then approached a car that was parked with a bystander inside.

Police rushed the car and the man began to run towards them with the knife. They opened fire and the man was killed instantly.

The BEI's job is to investigate whenever a civilian is injured or killed during a police intervention. They say eight of their investigators will look to determine exactly what happened.
