A new poll has revealed that a majority of voters do not think that the United States should welcome refugees from Gaza, the Palestinian territory from which Hamas launched it’s brutal attack against Israel on October 7.
The Rasmussen Reports poll found that 52 percent of likely voters say the US should not accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza, while 28 percent said the country should. Another 20 percent were unsure.
When split by party affiliation, Democrats were more likely to say the US should accept these refugees, at 42 percent, compared to Republicans and independent voters who said the US should not accept these refugees, at 73 and 50 percent, respectively.
Biden’s visit to Israel received mixed responses from voters, with 42 percent saying that his visit was somewhat or very successful, and 45 percent saying that the visit was not very or not at all successful.
37 percent of likely voters said that Biden’s policy on Israel was not favorable enough, while 36 percent said it was "about right." Another 14 percent said that it was "too favorable."
The poll was conducted on October 18, 19, and 22 by Rasmussen Reports of 992 US likely voters and has a margin of error of 3 percent.
This comes after Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, killing at least 1,400 Israelis and taking over 200 people hostage, including Americans.
Since then, the US has pledged to give humanitarian aid to Gaza, with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating on Wednesday that giving aid was "a top priority" for Biden.
"Yesterday," Biden said in a Thursday speech addressing the nation, "in discussions with the leaders of Israel and Egypt, I secured an agreement for the first shipment of humanitarian assistance from the United Nations to Palestinian civilians in Gaza. If Hamas does not divert or steal this shipment, these shipments, we're going to provide an opening for sustained delivery of Life Saving humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians."
This also comes as border officials have warned that terrorists from Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) could be crossing into the US through the southern border.
"San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit assesses that individuals inspired by, or reacting to the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border," the memo read.
