POLL: Jim Justice leads Joe Manchin by 13 points in lead up to WV Senate election
West Virginia may soon not have a single Democrat elected in statewide office.
West Virginia may soon not have a single Democrat elected in statewide office.

A new survey of West Virginia residents found that Republican Governor and US Senate candidate Jim Justice will sail past Sen. Manchin (D-WV) 41-28 in a hypothetical 2024 Senate race.
Emerson College Polling also found that should Manchin go against Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV), he would likely emerge victorious, with the former getting an estimated 37 percent of the vote and the latter garnering 31 percent.

While Justice is far ahead of Manchin in the hypothetical result of 41-28, it is important to note that 16 percent of voters say they are undecided, and that another 15 percent indicated they would support another candidate.
Emerson College Polling executive director Spencer Kimball said that the reason for the stark differences in support between Justice and Mooney boils down to swing voters.
"Independents are breaking for Justice, 43% to 18%," he explained, "however, in the matchup with Mooney, independents are split 32% to 32%."
Gov. Justice has a 40 percent approval rating among West Virginians, with 26 percent disapproval and 34 percent of respondents reporting they are neutral. Joe Biden, on the other hand, has a paltry approval rating in the state of only 19 percent, with 71 percent disapproving. Just 10 percent of voters say they are neutral.
Among Republican voters, approximately 50 percent approve of Justice's job as a governor, as do 34 percent of Democrats and 35 percent of independent voters.
Questions were also asked about the 2024 presidential election. Per the survey, former President Donald Trump trounces Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head, with the former president leading 59 percent to Biden's 23 percent. 13 percent say they will vote for another candidate while 5 percent remain undecided.
A majority of West Virginia voters (51 percent) believe Biden stole the 2020 election, while only 25 percent believe it was a legitimate victory.
Former President Trump notably did not lose a single county of West Virginia during the 2020 election.
