Pro-abortion activists to protest at Catholic churches on Mother’s Day

One of these protest groups, Ruth Sent Us, wrote on Twitter: "Whether you’re a 'Catholic for Choice', ex-Catholic, of other or no faith, recognize that six extremist Catholics set out to overturn Roe. Stand at or in a local Catholic Church Sun May 8."

Included in the tweet is a video of women interrupting a Catholic service, dressed in the "Handmaid’s Tale" costumes of a red robe and a white bonnet. The video begins with a call to action: "challenge time."

Ruth Sent Us is the same group holding "Walk-by Wednesday" on May 11, where protestors will descend upon the homes of six "extremist" Supreme Court justices.

"Our 6-3 extremist Supreme Court routinely issues rulings that hurt women, racial minorities, LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights. We must rise up to force accountability using a diversity of tactics," the group wrote on their website, noting the location of the homes of Amy Coney Barrett, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch.

The organization Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights will be launching a "week of resistance" starting on Mother’s Day, with similar protests outside of churches.

"This action is called for by a collective of Spanish-speaking women’s rights groups + activists across the country, including from Bride’s March, Dominican Women’s Development Center, Ni Una Menus, and Las 17. Several cities will be hosting protests outside of prominent churches in their towns, these can look like a group of people holding signs wearing Handmaids Tale outfits, passing out flyers outside to churchgoers or doing a die-in," the group’s website states.

The Handmaid’s Tale outfits are frequently donned by pro-choice activists, who compare overturning or restricting abortions and laws regarding them to the dystopian show and novel by Margaret Atwood, in which women are forced to carry pregnancies for male leaders.

In regards to churches, a Boulder, Colorado Catholic Church was vandalized on Wednesday with anarchist and pro-choice messages, according to Fox News.

Photos obtained by Fox News showed the outside of the Sacred Heart of Mary Church spray-painted with the words "my body, my choice."

While a draft opinion document, written by Justice Samuel Alito, indicated an overturning of Roe v Wade in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization was genuine, it is unclear whether the court will do so or not.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed on Tuesday that the document was in fact authentic, but stressed that it does not reflect a final opinion.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CatholicVote President Brian Burch condemned Catholic President Joe Biden’s lack of action in condemning what Burch called "domestic terrorist threats" against these churches.

"In the wake of the shameless leak of a draft opinion of the Supreme Court, pro-abortion groups are now threatening to disrupt Catholic churches and to protest outside the homes of Supreme Court justices this Sunday," wrote Burch.

"President Biden must immediately and forcibly condemn these domestic terrorist threats. Anti-Catholic zealots are plotting to intimidate and harass Catholics across the country, along with justices and their families. This country was built on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The President of the United States must stand up for both.

"These threats follow a record number of attacks on Catholic churches, shrines, and symbols over the past two years. Just this week another Catholic church in Boulder, CO was desecrated by pro-abortion activists. We call on responsible leaders in Washington to unequivocally condemn these dangerous threats before they lead to violence, or worse," he concluded.

CatholicVote has urged the Department of Justice to investigate vandalism against Catholic churches across the country, with at least 120 instances occurring since May of 2020.
