Putin wished Biden well Thursday after President Biden called President Putin a "killer" in an interview with George Stephanopoulos Wednesday, Ruptly reports.
Putin called the comment "like looking in a mirror."
"When I was a kid, when we were arguing with each other in the playground, we used to say, ‘Whatever you say [about others] is what you are yourself,’” Putin said.
The US, according to Biden, will have to deal with an increasingly self interested Moscow that looks after itself regardless of whether Washington engages or not. Biden has promised that for interfering with the 2020 election, an accusation the Kremiln denies, Russia would "pay the price."
"The US will have to reckon with this, despite their attempts to stop our development via sanctions and insults," Biden said.
Putin said that the US wants to have diplomatic ties with Moscow but only on "issues that are of interest to the United States itself."
"Even though they think we are like them, we are different people. We have a different genetic and cultural and moral code," Putin added.
This latest verbal tit for tat highlights the growing tension between the US and Russia. The Kremlin recalled its US ambassabor Wednesday until Biden apologizes for the comment, and to discuss their next steps.
