An officer in Oakville, Ontario tasked with enforcing quarantine compliance has been charged with extortion and sexual assault in connection with an incident involving a woman.
The accused goes by the name of "Hemant" and is 27 years old.
According to Vancouver Is Awesome, the suspect allegedly visited a woman's home on Feb. 18, supposedly to conduct a "quarantine compliance check". He then allegedly falsely told a woman that she was in violation of the lockdown orders in place in Ontario.
He allegedly demanded that she pay a fine in cash, and when she refused, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Halton Regional Police have reported that the individual charged has no direct connection with them. He works for an as-yet-to-be-named private security company (he has since been suspended from his duties) and was trained for his role by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
"Hemant" was arrested on Tuesday. He has since been released from police custody pending an appearance in court on Mar. 23.
Police suspect that this may not be the only incident involving this particular suspect and are asking any other potential victims or anybody else that may have more information regarding this suspect or this case to come forward.
