On Tuesday, Quebec officially launched their COVID-19 vaccine passport across the province.
According to CTV News Montreal, Tuesday is the first day that this program is in effect and will be enforced. It will be required for an extensive list of indoor and outdoor spaces and activities.
Not only will people need to show proof of vaccination, but they will have to show a piece of ID as well to enter establishments and participate in activities where the passport is required.
Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé said "certain groups will be exempted from the rule, including those who participated in the Medicago vaccine trial and those with contraindications to vaccination against COVID-19." People who fall under this category will have to get a note from their doctor and take it to a vaccination centre in order to be able to get a passport too.
Dubé indicated that those who do not comply with the new vaccine passport will be fined. People from other provinces or countries will need to present official proof of vaccination as well as a piece of ID in order to access the places that require the vaccine passport.
Protests against the vaccine passport in Quebec continue, with thousands marching on August 28, gathering in Maisonneuve Park. The protest was called "Professionals United," and was arranged by Reinfo Quebec, a group which describes itself as a collective of "caregivers, physicians and citizens" concerned with the government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
