Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, the Antifa supporting activist who pledged during her campaign to not prosecute crime, officially conceded the Seattle City Attorney race to Republican Ann Davison on Tuesday.
Davison clung to a 4-point lead after Monday’s final vote tally and had previously held a 17-point advantage on election day. Since mail in balloting was instituted in Washington state, later counts have tended to favor progressive candidates.
"I'm proud of my campaign and what we accomplished," she wrote. "We may not have won the plurality, but we came damn close. 120k+ people understood the problem & voted for abolition - for genuine and evidence based solutions. That is amazing, and I am glad I got to be a part of it."
Omitting donations to her campaign and PACs from progressive millionaires ,she continued, "And we overcame a lot to get there! Despite my opponent getting twice the money, legacy media's unrestrained support, and a blue-wash in the primary. ing [sic] by old guard neoliberal dems and a 'Democrat' political consulting firm - we still came in first." This despite being supported by local Democrats.
Thomas- Kennedy then blamed the media for her loss after her history of tweets promoting violence and trumpeting support for Antifa was exposed and went viral. She also omitted favorable articles and quotes about her submitted to Teen Vogue and The New York Times by staffers for her consulting company.
The radical then doubled down on her desire to abolish prisons and the police which was a centerpiece of her campaign. "Abolition is about building the world we want to live in, where people are connected and where all communities are supported and thriving. I look forward being in community and helping to build that bright future."
Thomas-Kennedy and Davison advanced to the general election after edging out twelve-year incumbent City Attorney Pete Holmes in the August primary. Many residents blamed Holmes for the increase in crime in Seattle as a result of his progressive ideology which created a revolving door for the justice system's prolific offenders.
Davison left the Democrat party after losing a bid for Seattle City Council in 2019 and ran as a Republican for lieutenant governor the following year but failed to advance from the August primary. Davison received bi-partisan support for her campaign for City Attorney including endorsements from high profile Democrats.
