Saskatchewan is now stepping away from a $260,000 WE Charity contract, according to CBC News.
WE Charity was awarded the non-competitive contract by the Saskatchewan Party in order to promote the well-being of students in schools. Gordon Wyant, the education minister noted that the province is not confident in WE Charity due to the large controversy surrounding it.
"We have paused the consideration of that contract and have since decided that we will not be proceeding with the delivery of those resources in our classrooms by WE," Gordon Wyant said on Tuesday.
"We will not be proceeding with executing the contract with WE to deliver those resources and we will be communicating that with the organization if it already hasn't been communicated."
The Saskatchewan NDP in July, was curious as to whether the contract was linked to a trip that Premier Scott Moe took that was connected to WE Charity.
"The timeline of events raises serious questions about the propriety and value of this contract," noted Carla Beck, the NDP education critic, in a news release.
"Who made the decision to hand WE Charity this contract, what is it intended to deliver for Saskatchewan students, and why did the Sask. Party choose a Trudeau-linked, Toronto-based charity to develop materials for our schools instead of actually addressing the understaffing and under-resourcing they've caused?"
These questions followed Prime Minister Trudeau’s apology for being involved in cabinet discussions concerning the multi-million dollar WE Charity contract.
