Seattle councilwoman blames shooting on ‘right-wing’ attackers with no evidence

Sawant not only leaned into the false narrative about so-called far-right violence in the zone that ended in the death of 19-year-old Lorenzo Anderson, but she placed blame on President Donald Trump, saying that it is "no accident that right-wing hate and violence has grown dramatically with Donald Trump in the White House."

She wrote "If this killing turns out to be a right-wing attack, President Trump bears direct responsibility, since he has fomented reactionary hatred specifically against the peaceful Capitol Hill occupation, and even threatened to intervene with federal troops," according to My Northwest.

But there is no evidence to support Sawant's claim that the attack was perpetrated by right-wing attackers—quite the opposite. According to Komo News, "the individuals involved in the shooting may have had previous history and that it seemed to [have] escalated because of 'gang affiliations.'"

This was followed up by a tweet from Ian Miles Cheong, saying: "First person view of the CHAZ/CHOP shooting in Seattle, filmed at 2 a.m., June 20th. Two were shot, one killed. It wasn't some 'gang of white nationalists' but rather a dispute between some of the insurgents."

The man in the video continued to express the fact that he was white, and that he didn't want to get stabbed by someone who brandished a large knife leading up to the shooting.

Sawant has been vocal about the need to defund the Seattle Police Department, was with protestors when they took over City Hall late at night earlier this month, and has been a proponent of the protestor led occupation since that night at City Hall.
