Seattle’s Marxist city council member Kshama Sawant trails behind in Recall Election

Although too close to call, preliminary results from election night show 53 percent have voted to recall Sawant. She now trials behind by a mere 7 percentage points, a margin that Sawant has overtaken in the past. With thousands of mail-in ballots left to be counted, the votes could keep Sawant behind or swing her to victory.

Representing Seattle District 3, Kshama Sawant, a member of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), was first elected to her seat in 2013 and is the longest tenured city council member in Seattle. Her district is considered to be the most progressive and gained notoriety when Antifa and Black Lives Matter overthrew a six block radius of Seattle to create the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) during the 2020 riots.

The Washington State Supreme Court unanimously ruled in April that a recall effort against the Marxist city council member could proceed.

Although being known as Seattle's most controversial city council member who's Socialist policies have included excessively taxing big businesses, controversial minimum wage increases, and police and prison abolition, the Supreme Court ruled the recall could proceed on the following charges:

Council member Sawant illegally led protesters into Seattle City Hall and endangered city workers when it was shut down to the public during the pandemic.

Council member Sawant led a militant march to Mayor Jenny's house, the location of which the council member knew was protected under confidentiality laws.

Council member Sawant delegated city employment decisions to a political organization outside city government.

Council member Sawant used city resources to promote a ballot initiative and failed to comply with public disclosure requirements.

Sawant's team immediately slammed the Supreme Court's decision, calling the recall effort a "billionaire-backed, right-wing recall campaign" despite 92 percent of her district voting for Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Election.

Henry Bridger II, the campaign manager and chairman of the Recall Sawant committee, refuted allegations that the recall is a right-wing effort and described himself as a liberal Democrat.

"I'm unemployed, I live in a studio apartment here on Capitol Hill. It's not run by any right-wing anything," Bridger said. "If you're one little inch off-step, you're right wing and you're against her. It's time that she gets fired and the people can do that, it's constitutional."

Sawant has only admitted to one of the charges and agreed to pay the city two times the amount she originally spent on the Tax Amazon initiative after admitting she used city funds to help fund the initiative, which is in direct violation of the city's code of ethics.

"This is the very reason we brought the recall effort against Sawant," Bridger explained. "She's been lying to the public all this time. Blatantly lied to our faces in public and consistently repeated by her followers."

"The citizens of Seattle and District 3 are tired of her radical Marxist actions, her bullying and running our city into the ground. We are demanding that Councilmember Sawant finally do right for the City of Seattle and her constituents in District 3, and pay back the legal fees she's bilked from the hard working Seattle Taxpayer and resign immediately."

Final results of the Recall Election should be in by the end of the week.
